The Welbeck Estate Group was
established in 1992 in the City of
Wells
Somerset. Its offices are located in the city centre owning the
former headquarters of the Somerset and Dorset Trustee Savings Bank
in a period building built in 1702 and close to the High Street and
cathedral.
The company specialises primarily in residential investment
portfolios and
former institutional housing stock particularly ex Ministry of
Defence housing and military establishments. The company succeeded
3 other specialist residential investment companies the oldest of
which was established in 1969.
The oldest were Phoenician Securities Ltd and Macedonian Securities
Ltd that pioneered a large number of residential 'break up schemes
in London following the introduction of the 1966 Rent Act. These
included the Grand Junction Estate acquired from Amalgamated
Investment and Properties plc
and comprised the entire freehold estate of all properties located
behind Sussex Gardens and Praed Street bounded by Norfolk Place and
Edgware Road in Paddington. Other unbroken blocks owned by the
group included 'Tarranbrae' Willesden Lane, West End Court, West End
Lane, West Hampstead, Dunraven House, Dunraven Street, Mayfair and
North Orbital Road, Denham.
In the mid 1970's First State Holdings Ltd was established acquiring
such assets as Woodhurst and Woodhurst South, Boulters Lock,
Maidenhead, Southbourne and Desborough House, Amersham Hill, High
Wycombe, West End Court, Stoke Poges, De Montfort Court,
Leicester. In all, the group acquired some 1380 residential units
over the following 15 years.
In 1979 the group acquired its first 127 unit ex MOD site at RAF
Faldingworth Lincolnshire and have just completed their 36th military
site in Ballykelly, Northern Ireland.
In 1980 an office was established in Arlington, Virginia, USA and
shortly afterwards the 200 unit mid rise rental block 'Robert
Towers' was purchased from Abe Pollin the owner of the Washington
Redskins. The block was renamed The Cavendish and converted to a
condominium.
The Cavendish was directly opposite
the Pentagon and shortly afterwards the group acquired the 160 unit
rental block 'The Lancaster' adjacent to the Navy Annexe to the
Pentagon again for condominium conversion. On the overseas side a
partnership was created for the sale of housing sites at Argyle
Gardens on the island of St
Vincent in the West Indies.
In 2003 the group diversified investment abroad and acquired a
marquee hire and concert events company in southern Norway namely
A-Tech Proffservice A/S. In
addition commercial and residential real estate have been acquired
to help service this business and create a new real estate company
BBC Invest A/S which in 2005 purchased the
Moland Park business park in
Arendal, Norway.
Over the years the group have established aviation interests. In
the late
1960's Macedonian Aviation was formed for both ad hoc charter and
scheduled aviation routes at Southend airport. The fleet comprised
5 DC3 Dakotas and a De Havilland Dove. At one time it operated the
scheduled route between Aberdeen and the Shetland Islands with BEA.
In more recent the years the group established BBC Air which
acquired the former Queens flight Dove G-HBBC which it still
operates. Until recently the company owned 4 Cessna flight training
aircraft which it leased to
Compton Abbas flying school.
The Welbeck Estate group now continues to expand particularly with
our selected partners and continue to specialise in the purchase and
development of residential estates, portfolios and blocks of flats.
